Music of Tribute Vol 7 - Haydn
FRENCH MASTERS PAY TRIBUTE TO THEIR GREAT VIENNESE PREDECESSOR
BRILLIANT YOUNG CROATIAN PIANIST RECORDS HOMAGES TO HAYDN BY RAVEL AND DEBUSSY ALONG WITH THREE HAYDN SONATAS
The seventh in Labor Records’ Music of Tribute series is devoted to the music of the great Austrian composer, Franz Joseph Haydn and his admirers which included Ravel, Debussy, Paul Dukas, and Vincent d’Indy, all of whom wrote homages to a revered master. Haydn himself is represented by three of his piano sonatas including his late, great C major.
The homages to Haydn, based on a musical spelling of his name, were composed by five major French composers—Ravel, Debussy, Dukas, Vincent d’Indy and Reynaldo Hahn—as well as the outstanding British composer George Benjamin. The three Haydn Sonatas including two of his Princess Marie Esterházy Sonatas were written during his fertile Esterházy sojourn and the late C major Sonata, written in London for the virtuoso pianist Therese Jansen-Bartolozzi (and contemporary with his ‘London’ symphonies).
This is the recorded debut of the brilliant young Croatian pianist Javor Bračić , a pupil and protégé of Pavlina Dokovska. Bračić also performs a Sonatina in homage to Haydn by his countryman, Davorin Kempf and a lively, quirky Capriccietto by the German composer Wolfgang Hochstein, based on a rough Viennese folk song that was also used by Haydn.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Tributes to Joseph Haydn by great French composers (Debussy, Ravel, etc.)
- Haydn Sonatas from his fertile Esterhazy and London periods
- Debut album of a brilliant new piano talent
